Top 7 Remarkable Concepts Will Be Presented At The 2015 Geneva Motor Show
The concept is a good idea — Joe Beasley
Needless to say, car concepts have always been superstars at any motor show. And at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, you will have the chance to admire many impressive concepts from popular brand names, including Audi, Acura, Infiniti, Lexus, Nissan, Mitsubishi and Kia.
Audi Prologue Avant
This Audi Prologue Avant isn’t the Audi Prologue concept that was introduced at the L.A Auto Show in 2014, but it’s a five-door wagon body concept with plug-in hybrid engines inherited from the Audi Q7 e-tron quattro — meaning a 3.0-liter, twin-turbo V6 TDI with 455hp of system power output and a 100kW-electric motor strapped to the eight-speed transmission. The purely electric range of this hybrid is about 33 miles, and 0-62 MPH sprints in 5.1 seconds.
Audi positions this concept in the luxury class since it offers unmistakable sportiness and variability. Technology is becoming an experience, both outside and inside: the driver and up to three passengers can enjoy a luxurious interior and are digitally connected thanks to a state-of-the-art infotainment architecture and connect technology. “With our show car for Geneva, we now translate the design language of the Audi prologue into a new, dynamic and stretched form. We’re merging it with a concept of high variability. The Audi Prologue Avant is progressive, emotion-filled and versatile. It reflects Audi’s technological competence and quality claim perfectly,” said Board Member for Technical Development, Prof. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg.
Under the leadership of Marc Lichte, the Audi design team produced very good work. The show car offers an absolutely new experience. The straight-line architecture forms one hole which contains the car’s display and control concept. The consistent front of the dashboard is composed of three touch displays — made from organic LEDs — allowing the driver and passengers to establish a digital communication. The extremely slim, detachable OLED displays in the rear — a spin-off of the Audi tablet from the Audi Q7 — provide passengers with on-demand information and entertainment.
A long front-section and a roof dome fall down early and continue towards the rear above extremely flat D-pillars — giving the car an athletic effect. Its proportions are balanced off, emphasizing the front and the rear wheels alike, and gives an indication of the Audi quattro genes.
The outside rear-view mirrors are small sculptures made from aluminum, the window channel strips subtly integrate the sensor surfaces towards the door opening. As soon as the driver touches the illuminated surfaces, electric motors will open the handle-less doors.
The flowing rear moving in strongly on the side is one of the most attractive views of the concept. The flatty arranged D-pillars sweep elegantly into the rear body shoulder which forms the edge of the luggage compartment lid and surrounds the entire rear section. The rear section itself is leaning forward in the direction of travel like a yacht — pushing off the car before it even starts moving.
Acura CDX
On Feb. 11, Acura’s parent company Honda registered the trademark “CDX” with the U.S Patent and Trademark Office. The company will also show off its premium crossover concept — which will likely be based on an existing Honda model, the HR-V — at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show.
Infiniti QX30
The QX30 concept will debut at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, which starts on March 3rd. In anticipation of this unveiling, Infiniti has dropped a teaser image of the upcoming crossover.
The new concept inherits heavily from the MFA premium compact car platform developed by Mercedes-Benz, including the sleek lines of a coupe with rugged looks and commanding seating position of a crossover.
Lexus LF-SA
Lexus is no longer a brand-name with conservative designs. The proof is its LF-SA concept, which is set to debut at the Geneva Show this year. But the company doesn’t give much to go on from the decidedly enigmatic teaser image and brief statement “the LF-SA concept explores unexpected territories for the brand”.
Even now, all what we know is that Sway is Nissan’s vision for a new small hatchback for the European market. It’s no more than a teasing image, in which you can easily recognize the company’s latest grille, shape, flanked by angled LED headlights and with the requisite spindly door mirrors and oversized wheels packed into flared arches.
Mitsubishi XR-PHEV II
This concept is the version 2 of the first XR-PHEV concept showcased in Tokyo back in 2013 and set to be an urban crossover thanks to a lightweight and compact body and high-efficiency front-wheel drive PHEV system.
At first glance, the new XR-PHEV II expresses vibrant dynamism with a silhouette taut muscularity and a body shape that compromise a character line which sharply cuts its sides and merges together with the protruding rear fenders.
Powered by a turbocharged 2.4-litre MIVEC diesel engine, the system is estimated to achieve very low CO2 emissions of below 40g/km while also delivering gutsy and smooth performance with excellent response with its 163PS electric motor.
Kia Sportspace
With this new wagon concept, Kia completed its product ranges. And yet, the new concept is so gorgeous. Designed at Kia’s Frankfurt design studio, the concept features a unique and captivating body shape in order to provide stylish and exciting transportation. Details surrounding the car’s powertrain and interior are forthcoming, but we think it will be some sort of diesel-electric hybrid setup like that in the Optima T-Hybrid concept.
