Huawei Might be Building a ‘Blockchain Smartphone’
Huawei Technologies is reportedly considering developing a mobile phone using Sirin Labs’ operating system. The phone would be capable of running blockchain applications alongside Android. According to Bloomberg, the talks are occurring privately. Currently, there is no agreement in place. If the parties confirm the agreement, Huawei would be the first major cellphone manufacturer to introduce a Blockchain-based smartphone and to bring the technology to the mass market.
So why launch a blockchain phone? Perhaps the most important reason is that it promises greater security and lower costs than other, more traditional databases.
Sirin Labs has been looking into blockchain for a while and is now developing its own blockchain smartphone, Finney. The device, which is advertised as the first open-source blockchain smartphone and all-in-one PC, is expected to cost about $1,000. However, the high price does not seem to deter prospective buyers of this luxury item – 25,000 units have already been pre-ordered.
Let’s not forget about Huawei. It is one of the largest smartphone manufacturers. The company also offers telecom equipment, cloud computing, and cybersecurity solutions. Currently, it is the largest telecom equipment manufacturer worldwide after surpassing Ericsson in 2012.
