I better start buying some lotto tickets because I’m going to need 150,000 big ones by next year.

After 35 years of development, Martin Aircraft has unveiled its manned jetpack, capable of attaining speeds of 45 mph in the air. This phenomena is achieved with a 200hp V4 gasoline engine that powers twin fans. Excited? You should be.

The fuel tank can sustain flight for 30 minutes, which should be enough time to pop over to the supermarket or pick your kids up from school.

The power to weight ratio is also sufficient for a maximum altitude of 1,000 meters, so it’s safe to say you’ll be able to see your house from a distance and still be close enough to a cell tower to call your mom to let her know.

Jetpack flying

If you’re not sure if the Martin jetpack is right for you, the Oculus Rift based virtual reality simulator gives a life-like experience of flying with two sizable fans strapped to your back. I’m going to go out on a limb and say that the sim is probably awesome and using the pack in real life is even better.

Many TechDrive readers may have already made the connection that $150K is the same price as some of the best sports cars available. And while some customers will purchase Martin’s wild creation and use it only on occasion, the New Zealand company asserts their flying machine is actually designed for emergency responders-primarily for surveillance before rescuers engage an emergency scenario.

So if you’ve got the disposable income to purchase one of these sweet jetpacks the experience would certainly be worth the money.

At least members of the 99% can take solace in the fact that this incredible piece of technology will also be used by emergency and government services for the good of the people.
