London Gets All-Electric Double-Decker Buses
The environmentally friendly buses will have no emissions, benefiting London air quality and raising the bar for public transit around the world.
The first fully electric London double-decker bus will enter service in October, as transport authorities try to reduce the capital’s air pollution levels. Just like they can with the existing buses in the city, Londoners will be able to track their Bus time on the new all-electric bus using an app like Moovit. Transport for London said the Chinese-built bus would be the the world’s first purpose-built electric double-decker. Will the rest of the world go green as well?
Just last week, at the global clean bus summit at City Hall in London, 24 cities pledged to roll out 40,000 low-emission buses by the end of the decade.
Apparently, there is one major problem about these buses, and that is that they seem to be missing windows? I guess they want to roast their passengers. People on twitter have been tweeting that the new buses windows don’t open properly, and that the buses have no air con.
Tfl has stressed that there is air con on the new buses, even if people are complaining AC is non-existent/rubbish.
London’s new zero emission buses will run along Route 16, transporting passengers to some of London’s biggest tourist attractions, including Hyde Park, the Hard Rock Cafe, and Buckingham Palace.
“The iconic red double-decker bus is about to become greener than ever,” said Mayor Johnson. “I could not be more pleased that London will play host to these exciting pure electric double-deck buses, and I’m sure the lucky users of Route 16 will embrace it with gusto.”
