Welcome Vela, A Beautiful Vintage E-Bike Under $800
Presented By Wingz – Scheduled Airport Rides
Home to a mix of Hollywood execs, celebrities, surfers, skaters and young eco-conscious professionals, the coastal resorts of Santa Monica are just 10 miles north of Los Angeles International Airport. My favorite place to stay when in town!
Not only is this city-by-the-sea blessed with near-perfect weather and a phenomenal stretch of sand, it’s the ideal starting point for trips up north along the Pacific Coast Highway and an excellent metropolitan L.A. But I mostly just love Santa Monica for what it is: a laid-back beach town with a sophisticated urban edge. If you’re looking for the quintessential Southern California lifestyle, this is exactly where you’ll find it.
But my trip back to Santa Monica this time was for a more important mission: to test drive a gorgeous vintage electric bicycle called Vela.
With the price tag of $799, Vela is the most affordable vintage e-bike in the market now. It’s a beautiful, electric single-speed cruiser with a 370-Wh removable lithium-ion battery, GPS tracking, anti-theft alarm system, and a control panel with USB port. The battery has a range of at least 15-20 miles (depending on terrain) and can be fully charged in 90 minutes. For a daily commute, Vela is a perfect fit.
The rear wheel houses a single speed ‘8fun’ 350-W brushless electric motor with a max torque of 35Nm. The mechanism detects heavy pedaling situations and automatically helps to ease the drive through tough inclines. The whole design weighs only 42 pounds, so even a young woman can lift it up.
The Vela is a sexy e-bike that is easily tracked on Google Maps due to its built-in GPS. An internal 100dB motion-sensitive, remote-controlled sound alarm activates if anyone tries to steal your Vela.
Pre-order is available now on Kickstarter for only $550 instead of the regular retail price of $799. Shipping will start in November.
