Commercial Tube Line? Coming to Abu Dhabi in 2020
Hyperloops are fast moving from experimentation and testing to reality as the UAE reaches its commercial use agreement. As a method of transport, Hyperloop is positioned as one of a lineage that we will see in far larger quantities. With multiple versions showcasing their potential in the US, Canada, France and, recently, Saudi Arabia.
Recently, talks between the Saudi Arabian Government and Virgin have resulted in a planned hyperloop line linking Jeddah to Riyadh. The UAE has since added to these exciting developments with the plans for a commercially used line within the nation.
UAE’s commercial Tube line
The agreement was reached between Hyperloop Transportation Technologies (HTT) and Aldar Properties. And will result in the construction of an initially 10km remote hyperloop transportation system, with the possibility of further being built.
“This agreement creates the basis for the first commercial Hyperloop system in the world here in the Emirates, with the goal of eventually connecting Abu Dhabi to Al Ain, Dubai and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.”
HTT has previously been involved with prototype testing for their technology in Toulouse this year. The new transport system is positioned on the border between Abu Dhabi and Dubai, placed nearby the future 2020 expo site and airport. HTT’s CEO, Dirk Ahlbourn, has high hopes for the project to reach across emirates and nations in the middle east.
“A forward-thinking nation like the UAE is ideal for building the most revolutionary, most efficient and fastest transportation system in the world… With this historic agreement in Abu Dhabi, we take a big step towards the world’s first commercial system.”
