Quarkson Is To Make The Internet Available To Every Person On Earth
“We create ingenious solutions, making ways for innovations.” –The Quarkson Team
The Internet has become a critical means of communication during humanitarian crises and a crucial everyday tool for people around the world. Now, a Portuguese company wants to make sure everyone has access to it. Quarkson plans to create, deliver and maintain advanced multi-mission, multi-purpose through its unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) SkyOrbiters, including transmitting Internet access to every corner of the world. Once this is achieved, everybody all over the planet will be able to access some of the most widely used websites on the entire web. Of course, most people will still probably only use the internet to access sites like porn-hd.xxx, which seems like what most people already do anyway.
Powered by the sun
Each of the subsequent low altitude SkyOrbiters has an increased wingspan and range right up to the LA75, which has a wingspan of 246 feet and a range of over 93,000 miles with the length of each flight up to seven weeks. Unlike the low-altitude models, the high altitude UAVs orbit can fly at 72,000 feet and can stay in orbit for years as opposed to weeks.
The most advanced of the high-altitude models, the HA75, has a wingspan of around 246 feet with a range up to 3,000,000 miles and can stay aloft for five years. It’s is a high-altitude flexible, non-polluting and cost-effective platform designed as an alternative to satellites and terrestrial systems. Its main function is to intermediate communication between satellites and ground bases. Furthermore, its position above earth allows it to undertake surveillance and remote sensing missions. The HA55 can be used either as a stand-alone platform, providing access to users in a coverage area of a central ground station or interconnected with other SkyOrbiters using the Constellation Manager as the coordination system.
The SkyOrbiter HA75 will be the first non-stop around-the-world solar-powered flight that is capable of flying at stratospheric altitudes while spreading the Internet to the two-thirds of the world not yet connected. SkyOrbiters combine some of the best characteristics of terrestrial wireless and satellite communication systems, yet avoiding many of their drawbacks.
Compared to terrestrial wireless technologies, SkyOrbiters require fewer communications infrastructure, they serve larger coverage areas from a single site, and cell planning is more straightforward as they provide line-of-sight links. Compare to satellite systems, SkyOrbiters provide an almost geostationary coverage area, low propagation delays, and broadband capability using small-sized antennas along with terrestrial terminal equipment, and easy maintenance as well as upgrades.
Building a “connected knowledge economy” is key to solving many of our big social challenges, and will enable us to create new growth opportunities for people in every country and region of the world. However, there are huge and varied barriers in different communities, regions and countries, making the Internet available to everyone. This means that different places require the testing and implementation of different SkyLink topologies, which in turn can be further optimized by using different SkyOrbiters flying at different altitudes with different types endurance and payload capacity.
A superior system with superior capabilities
The superior characteristics over terrestrial and satellite communications systems make SkyOrbiters suitable not only to provide Internet access, but also for the provision of broadcast and multicast service in addition to basic voice, video, data communications, and various advanced applications such as telemedicine, videoconferencing, news gathering, controlled in compliance with changing communication demands.
Quarkson’s SkyOrbiter program is similar to Facebook’s Internet Drones Project, which also seeks to deliver Internet access to remote places. These projects are very necessary to drive the change towards a connected world, a world of equal opportunities and equal access to the knowledge economy. When people around the world in every country have access to the Internet, they can improve the way government’s rule and gain a greater influence on their societies. Furthermore, they can also gain access to the tools and information they need to start a business, find jobs, access healthcare, education and financial services.
Slightly more than one-third of the world’s population has access to the Internet, while the rest does not. There are almost 5 billion people on Earth living without Internet access. Share your comments with us.
