Google Maps Adds a Wheelchair Accessible Routes Option
Finally. This update is way overdue.
This week, Google Maps made some major progress in making its platform more accessible for millions of users. The tech giant announced in a blog post on Thursday that its public transportation navigation options will now include a “wheel-chair accessible” feature. As Google points out, this feature could be handy for not just wheelchair users, but anyone with limited mobility, be it due to injury, age or a baby stroller.
All you have to do to find such a route is type a destination into Google Maps. First, tap “Directions.” Then select the public transportation icon. Tap “Options” and under the “Routes” section, and you’ll find “wheelchair accessible” as a new route type. Selecting this option will show you a list of the routes that are wheelchair accessible, explains the blog post announcing the new feature.
