Interior pictures have just been published, and Volkswagen promises buyers can choose whether they want two, five, or seven seats, and all models feature storage bins scattered throughout the cabin. Like the Transporter, the California gains a new 2.0-liter TDI turbodiesel four-cylinder mill that can be ordered with either 83, 100, 147 or 201 horsepower.

The California is on sale now in its home country of Germany, where it carries a base price of €41,429 (roughly $46,000).

Don’t be fooled by the name, because this model is not offered in California or any of the other 49 states.
