Mark your calendars; we now have an official date to see the real, production version of the next generation Civic Type R. March 3rd the hot hatch will break cover for its global debut at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, and will share the spotlight with two other fierce Honda – the next-gen. NSX, which makes its European premiere, and the 2015 McLaren-Honda Formula 1 race car, which revives an iconic partnership in the highest form of motorsport.
Honda is claiming this will be the “most extreme Type R ever built” and we have little reason to doubt that. In addition to this being the first application of Honda’s new 2.0-liter VTEC turbo power plant, the FWD car will also purportedly boast adaptive suspension and some aero bits from the factory. Fans will be able to learn more about the car when Honda launches a dedicated micro-site, www.redline.global, on January 28 (there’s also apparently a hashtag, too: #HondaRedline).
We also hear that Honda will be showing a production NSX at the motor show, and the 2015 McLaren-Honda Formula 1 racecar will also be on display. The F1 car is set to make its competitive debut at the season opener in Melbourne, Australia on March 15, beginning what we hope is a new legacy for the two brands; the original partnership produced four Constructors’ World Championships in four years between 1988 and 1991.
