2014 BMW i3 Lease Deals Appear: $369/Month For Electric Car

Accordingly, with the BMW i3 electric car on the market for five months now, we’re starting to see more aggressive marketing on the part of dealers.

One more generous lease takeover deal that popped up recently came from Stevens Creek BMW, in Silicon Valley’s Santa Clara, California.

The high-volume dealer, which sells lots of BMWs of all types to Silicon Valley workers and their families, has more than 40 i3 electric cars in stock at the moment, according to tipster Mike McCarver.

The 36-month lease deal offered through the end of this month costs $369 a month plus tax, with $3,995 due at signing.

The mileage is limited to 10,000 miles a year, potentially below the annual average for an aggressive commuter who can recharge an electric car at work.

The Stevens Creek deal applies to one specific 2014 BMW i3, identified by its vehicle-identification number, per advertising regulations.

That specific deal–available on only five cars as of yesterday–may not apply to other BMW i3 models with different mixes of options, let alone those with the REx range-extending engine.

But the availability of such a deal indicates that dealers may have worked through the early demand for the i3, and will now have to work a little harder to move the small electric hatchback with what many view as a somewhat polarizing design.

Sales of the BMW i3 were about 350 a month for its first three months on the market. Then last month, deliveries soared to a remarkable 1,025–effectively doubling the number sold, for a total of 2,082 from May through August.

Of those cars, roughly 60 percent appear to have been sold with the range-extending REx option–though BMW officials have said they expect the proportion of REx-equipped i3s to fall over time, as drivers get more comfortable with the battery range and spread the word.

Meanwhile, if you live in the San Francisco Bay Area, you have six days left to get this lease deal and to decide how to trade in a leased car early, in case that is your purpose.

It’s pretty likely, however, that if you miss this one there will be others to come.
