Things Only On Tesla: Upgrading Your Car As Easy As Upgrading Your iOS
“Great companies are built on great products.” — Elon Musk
We have heard a lot about how alike Steve Jobs and Elon Musk are, and here is one more thing about their business philosophy that I found astounding: To build a product that can be easily upgraded without a trip to the store.
If you are using an Android, you understand how annoying it can be to update to a new operating system version — from Android Jelly Bean to Kit Kat, for example, that postponed (or prevented) certain users to be able to upgrade at different times based on their hardware and/or calling plan. As for upgrading anything in your car, you will definitely have to have a trip to an authorized dealership.
But if you are using an iOS device or a Tesla, upgrading is available to everyone and can be done right at your house.
Elon Musk tweeted about a Tesla Press Conference at 9am this Thursday, and it will be “about to end range anxiety”, which will also “affect the entire Model S fleet”.
Although Tesla Model S cars are pure-electric cars with the longest range and highest safety rating in America, it has never satisfied Elon. “I could either watch it happen, or be part of it,” said Elon. And yet, a coming software update for the Tesla Model S will “end range anxiety”. What is that? We will know the answer this Thursday.
