Verizon IndyCar Goes Connected Car With Hardware Device To Relay Race Data

The TechDrive team got a behind the scenes look at the newest technology IndyCar are implementing in their cars to improve race timing and scoring. In the video below we interviewed IndyCar’s lead inhouse engineer Jonathan Koskey, Director of Timing and Innovation. Koskey talks about the MyLaps X2 transponder, which allows two way data communication between the car and comms team.

The precision of the device is 1/10000 of a second. At 200 mph they can time half an inch within two cars between each other on the track. This new piece of hardware allows more accurate timing for lap times, or the gap between the cars etc.
