Pioneer Has Its Systems Playing On Apple CarPlay From Now On

After iBeacon, another Apple’s Creation has been implemented. Pioneer Electronics became one of the first aftermarket manufacturers to support Apple CarPlay with the official release of a compatible firmware update for five 2014 NEX in-dash multimedia receivers, as well as the introduction of the CarPlay-compatible fourth generation AppRadio (SPH-DA 120). The company also offers consumers the ability to upgrade the Pioneer’s Systems that they already own to the smarter, safer and more fun way to use iPhones in the car. Consumers with the latest version of iOS on their iPhone 5 or later, including iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus, can use Siri voice control to make and receive calls, compose and respond to text messages, access Apple maps for navigation, and listen to their music libraries, podcasts and iTunes Radio.

“CarPlay enriches the iPhone experience in the vehicle by providing a safe way to access the iPhone features they want to use most while driving,” said Ted Cardenas, Vice President of Marketing for the Car Electronics Division of Pioneer Electronics Inc. It’s marked as the first time CarPlay can be integrated into millions of vehicles already on the road.

CarPlay is also compatible with the all-new AppRadio 4, designed with the smartphone user in mind, offering a simple and clean cosmetic design with the majority of entertainment functions, as well as hands-free calling and texting controls operated through its high-resolution 6.2-inch screen WVGA capacitive touchscreen. It’s also providing increased audio performance, inheriting the capabilities of Pioneer’s NEX receiver models.

The CarPlay firmware update is now available at no charge through pioneerelectronics.com/firmware. Current NEX owners can simply load the firmware on a USB memory device and connect it to the receiver’s USB cable input. Pioneer is also sending the CarPlay firmware to authorized retailers across the country for consumers who prefer to update their unit through a dealer.
