Mercedes’ Electric Maybach SUV Concept Includes Actual Tea Set

Mercedes has unveiled a new concept high-end luxury SUV at the 2018 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition. The Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury SUV features a spacious interior, and there’s even a bespoke tea set hidden in the car’s console.

It’s “a totally new archetype, of a kind never seen before,” Gorden Wagener, chief design officer at Mercedes parent Daimler AG, said in a statement Tuesday in advance of the Beijing International Automotive Exhibition.

If you are looking for a car like this you may need to be aware of the common problems with the Mercedes A class before you buy it.

More pleasing exterior details include turbine-style, 24-inch wheels, and door handles that lie flush against the body, and pop out w hen in use, like the ones on a Tesla.

The powertrain is rated at 750 horsepower and it gets it juice from an 80 kWh battery that lies flat beneath the floor. The model is conceived as being fully electric, with all-wheel drive and four seats. Mercedes says the system allows a charging capacity of up to 350kW, and with five minutes of charging, the car will have an additional range of 62 miles (100km).

It also incorporates Chinese design elements like ebony, which Mercedes says is known as “Magic Wood” often used in Chinese furniture. The tea set, which includes a teapot and cups, is made of china, and the sculpted wooden tray is made of ebony. The console is equipped with an integrated heated tray so you can happily drink tea without worrying about where to boil water. You can access the tea set by pressing a button which electronically reveals it. Mercedes says there are also a variety of teas available and “relaxation programs” for passengers sitting in the back.

Talk about luxurious.

Concepts such as Ultimate Luxury SUV shows that designers are constantly pushing the boundaries of what is possible. All that remains is to make the concepts production cars.
