Marijuana Startup Wants To Deliver Weed By Drones
Airborne marijuana might soon be a thing. What a time to be alive, huh?
San Francisco-based startup Trees Delivery, which brands itself as “the original craft cannabis box,” is attempting to bring its subscription pot box to a higher level by enlisting the help of drones for its delivery service.
“We see drones as an amazing tool for delivery. A drone will never be late,” CEO Marshall Hayner tells Mashable.
Trees currently offers three boxes, the Beginner Box, the Bud Box, and the Extract Box, with prices ranging from $99 to $149, including same-day delivery.
What’s the catch? Smokers must have a medical license to order marijuana under the law. And even then, they can’t do it quite yet. Trees is awaiting approval from the US Federal Aviation Administration to fly drones.
At the moment, Trees Delivery’s drone program seems more like a weed lover’s dream than one that will actually come true anytime soon. There are many hangups when it comes to using drones commercially, but Hayner told Mashable that they’ll be ready for when it does happen.
Despite the many obstacles, Hayner says the startup dispensary is the “most fun thing I’ve ever worked on.” The company even wants to expand its business beyond San Francisco, with plans on delivering to other cities like Los Angeles and Denver.
