Here’s How To Cancel Your Flight For Free And Get A Cheaper Airfare

Although you are a master of cheap airfare hunting, it’s true that you don’t always get the cheapest deal. Actually, 90 percent of travelers are not going to get the cheapest deals. Why? Because the vast majority of travelers don’t know how to take advantage of the right of canceling their flight for free within 24 hours of booking.

Fortunately, I’m here to share with you how to get a better deal by taking advantage of flight cancellation rules.

It’s a federal rule for airlines to give passengers a full refund if they choose to cancel their flights within 24 hours of booking, and allowing them to book more than seven days before their trips. Therefore, it’s properly confirmed that you could have cancelled and re-booked your tickets for a lower price, which are on average 14 percent lower than the original.

According to Hopper, a Canada-based company that uses data sets comprising of billions of flight prices to help travelers find the right destination for their budgets and the best possible deal, 68 percent of the time, airfares do drop within that 24-hour window. Hopper also notes eight majors U.S. airlines offer free cancellation for tickets purchased at least seven days in advance: Delta, United, US Airways, JetBlue, Southwest, Spirit, Frontier and American. And most of these let you cancel your ticket for free even if you booked within seven days of departure, except JetBlue, US Airways and Spirit.

However, the 24-hour rule is applied only for direct booking on airlines websites. But well, I think you don’t mind about that, as long as you are able to reach the best deal.
